Last year Minnesota suffered a 'hundred year winter.' It was colder than a walk-in freezer, starting early and ending late and setting all kinds of records for days below 0 degrees. Rather than a subtle transition, we exchanged our shorts for parkas in a heartbeat, and our fall clothing barely emerged from our closets. Not so this year. Autumn has arrived, taken off it's shoes for a long visit, and this beautiful gem emerged like a butterfly from its chrysalis.
The blanket coat is making a firm resurgence certainly, but for me it reminds me of home, where there is always a burning log in the fireplace, a warm cat to nestle into your lap, and Mom's favorite Christmas record playing on repeat in the living room.
As long as the autumn breeze keeps away Father Winter, this 1970s gem will be keeping me toasty on weekday commutes, quick trips to the grocery store, and long walks through the leaves.
