Traipsing Through St Paul

Kate Sommers

I'll be honest. I kind of avoid St. Paul.  Okay, that’s not entirely true. It’s just that I try to never leave my segment of Minneapolis more than I have to. This is not true year round of course. In summer I’m happy to drive four hours round-trip to eat pizza. But winter? Ugh. Winter for me is not much more than intentional introversion, rotting my brain on my couch and complaining. Even though my Nordic stature may make me seem like I’m built for the cold, my skin chaps, and I want to do nothing but drink wine, eat carbs and escape from people until spring. But since this post was about St. Paul and not about SAD I’ll get back to the matter at hand.

For the past 6-9 months I’ve been drooling over an Instagram feed called @MadeWithMap. It’s a taste of everywhere I’ve ever wanted to go in the world with beautifully curated photography from every day Janes like you and me (and perhaps some accomplished world travelers). Looking at the MadeWithMap feed is an escape from a city I can’t afford to leave and makes me reminisce about my early twenties gallivanting around Europe with my boyfriend and budget of under $300 a month. In sum: I’m am, 100%, without a doubt, a MadeWithMap fangirl.

So even though the bitter sting of winter was in the air and despite the fact that my travels would only take me 20 minutes to the east, when I saw that MadeWithMap was visiting St. Paul I knew I was in for an adventure.

The following pictures are some of my favorites that I’ve taken over the years of St Paul. Some are from last week, some are from 3 years ago and all are from my iPhone (because the best camera you own is the one you carry with you, blah blah blah). If you’re in the mood to brave the arctic chills or have some favorite shots in your arsenal, sign up to jump the beta line at MadeWithMap with the code FLOCKOFBROADS for the opportunity to submit.
