Cornered In A Parking Lot

Talia Wischmann

For the men who were not raised to understand what is and is not appropriate behavior toward women.

It is not ever appropriate to corner a woman between your car and another vehicle while she’s walking through a dark parking lot in the rain. In fact, cornering a woman at all, whether in a dark parking lot or not, and regardless of the weather, is not ever appropriate. Though I’m certain your sentiment about how “a woman so beautiful shouldn’t have to push her own grocery cart” was meant as flattering, it was not taken that way. When we are put into situations like that - in dark parking lots, with men in vehicles who weigh at least 100 pounds more than us - we are frightened not flattered.

That woman does not want your attention. She wants to get her groceries home. She doesn’t want to sit in her car with the doors locked thinking about the women who have gone missing in parking lots.

The next time you see a beautiful woman walking through a parking lot, or a mall, or a subway station, let her walk.
