I don't have distinct memories of my parents growing vegetables. Basil was always in containers around our patio and I remember a zucchini the size of a baseball bat and the occasional tomato, but the enviable bounty from some people's yards (like Carly's) has never been a part of my history, though not for lack of trying. Inevitably I forget to weed or water and my 3x8 foot space slowly becomes overshadowed by the 100 year old Red Maple that towers over our city block "garden".
But this year is going to be different. I just had twenty strangers come rip up a raspberry bush in our south-facing space; free from shade and ready to deliver the vegetable garden of my dreams. I'll also be using this stunning Lunar Planting Guide from Tootie and Dotes designed by Ashley Barlow which is equal parts beautiful/practical/magical. And lets be honest, even if my garden doesn't miraculously grow a summer's worth of vegetables, at the end of the day I'll have this hanging on my wall to help me keep my hopes high for next year.
