I'm terribly sorry to tell you this, but it's still winter. "But all those stores are putting out their spring stuff!" and, "What about those spring lookbooks?!" I know. In April we'll still be shoveling out our cars and traipsing around in our Sorels. My best advice is to finish out the next 3 1/2 months of winter strong with some great staples for your winter wardrobe. BONUS: many of these are on sale to make room for spring inventory.
The White Button-Up
Always a classic; the white button-up (or button-down depending who you're talking to) is something I wear at least once a week and is perfect for layering. It'll also translate into your spring wardrobe like a pro.
Patterned Ponchos, Capes and Sweaters
Is it a blanket? Is it a poncho? Who cares! It's comfortable and easy to wrap up in.
Better Than Basic Sweatshirts
I'm a huge fan of fancy sweatshirts and often push the limits of the business casual dress code at work by wearing one of these comfy staples.
Serious preppy classics.
These beauties offer texture and a bit of flare so they won't stick to your tights.
The No. 2 Pencil Skirt from J. Crew is one of the most amazing pieces of clothing ever made. I have four. I've picked them all up on sale just after the end of a season. Try a pencil skirt on the bottom with a boxy sweater on top to break up the "oversized everything" look that's happening this year.
These three can easily transition into your spring wardrobe and are effortless enough to work on the weekends.
There's something about winter that makes me rebel against high heels (and by rebel I mean wear them 1-2 times a week rather than everyday). I need a couple great flat options that are work appropriate and chic. Enter the Oxford and patent loafer. Plus two heel options for you because they're adorable.
Good luck with the rest of winter and let's grab a drink when the weather sucks less.
