The Shoes That Go With Everything

Alexandra Heide

Let me preface this by saying that (until now) I'd never utter this aloud, but I'm one of those women who can never have too many shoes. Still, I tend to gravitate to practical picks, and for me, function always tops form. If the shoes ain't comfortable, forget it. Just say no to stiletto(s)!

Enter the Superga 2750 Cotu Classic, a stylish Italian sneaker that effortlessly blends with any outfit--okay, formal gowns aside

To prove how versatile they are and to push you to go beyond the jeans-and-sneakers realm, I pulled together a couple of looks complete with awkward poses to inspire you on those days you're feeling particularly ballsy...which should be every day, ladies. Life is short.

BOLD:  Saturday Afternoon

Saturdays are made for laziness, but that doesn't mean you should always roam about in yoga pants. When you do that, you're just begging to bump into everyone you know and their mom. I fake looking "pulled together," by donning my vintage skirt and a t-shirt knotted on the side. It's effortless and just as comfortable as pajamas. Add a tote bag and hit those farmer's markets, girl!

BOLDER:  Comfort at Work

Necklace:      Amrita Singh    // Top:     H&M    // Pants:     Old Navy    // Bracelet:     Forever 21

Now, if you work at a corporation, I completely undersand your hesitation about rocking Supergas at the office. I work at a large one and can tell you firsthand that You get WILL stared at by coworkers who interpret the business casual dress code in--er--a more "traditional" sense. However, when creativity is considered an asset in your role, it's okay to let your personal style serve as an extension of it. Just make sure the rest of your outfit errs on the dressier side. I have a coworker who describes my style as "Corporate Edgy," and in a sea of grey suits and unflattering trouser pants, I'll take it.

BOLDEST:  A Friend's Wedding

I love weddings, but choosing the right shoes is always difficult. You want to look like you put some effort into your outfit, but you also don't want to exit the dance floor early on account of dead feet. If your Supergas aren't caked in a layer of dirt and the wedding dress code isn"t black tie, try this one. Again, the key here is to make the rest of your look polished. Get your hair did, accessorize with shiny jewelry and add a red lip.

With the right pair of shoes, you can be both comfortable AND stylish. Need more outfit inspiration? Look to Madewell, the unofficial experts on tomboy chic, or at this stylish lady, or this one
